“Thian is a world with magic.” Bastien stood, making his way over to the window. “It’s the reason we’re here.” He thought back to his own arrival, and how complicated it had been. Lottie seemed to be taking it all much better, but then there was no way for him to know what she was truly thinking or feeling. “Someone who’s given the chance to call Thian home is here because the world wanted to give them another chance to live out the life they should have had.” Running his tongue over his lips he turned to look at her. “You do know how you’re here, don’t you?”

Travelling from one world to another is something I have never much enjoyed. People judge me based on what they see, and, of course, what they see is only a tiny part of who I am. My clothes might not be the newest fashions, but they keep me safe from the things I know I’ll be dealing with when I finally get to Deotis. I’d rather be protected than look good. Of course that tells them I’m a treasure hunter, which means, obviously, I have no morals. I am willing to do whatever I have to in order to get whatever it was I was hired to get. Yet, to me, that defines a thief, and I’m not a thief. I would say I’ve never stolen anything from anyone, but that would be a lie. I have to admit I have stolen, from the bodies of people who would have killed me had I not killed them first, and I don’t have any regrets about that choice. Sometimes it’s been the only way I was able to survive.

There were two things Claire noticed as she made her way around the hotel – it was empty of guests, and it was far bigger on the inside than it was on the outside. Knowing the fae the latter was to be expected, but the former was unsettling. Earning a living from something like a hotel meant having guests, although it was possible Bran’s death… the story he’d told her wasn’t easy to believe, and yet it was one she’d heard so many times. People who’d never thought for a moment they might have fae blood were finding that, actually, something had happened in the past that had led to that being a possibility. Sighing, she raked a hand through her hair. Her blood meant she was the one to inherit the hotel. Her blood meant she was probably going to be stuck with the place until she died.

The call had drawn her to what appeared to be a school. After everything she’d been through Astrid knew better than to think what she was seeing was what she was actually going to be dealing with. She wouldn’t have been called if there wasn’t something unusual going on. Biting hard on her lip, her heart pounding in that way it always did when she found herself standing close to a lot of magic, she gave herself a moment to think things through. Just running in, as much as she wanted to, wasn’t going to do her any good, so she took a few steps backwards, in the hope it would help. It didn’t. Whatever was in that school was strong, and strong often meant dangerous. Raking a hand through her hair she thought about the stories she’d heard while she was in town.

There was only one person who would knock on my door at 3am. For a moment I lay in bed, hoping he’d go away, but then he knocked again. “Lily.” His voice was little more than a whisper, but I could hear him like he was right beside me. “Come on, little sister. I need you.”

Aeron was certain they were making a huge mistake. He glanced at the souls that were sitting in crystal jars on the side, trying not to let the sight of them get to him. Under normal circumstances they would have used second-hand souls, who had already lived at least three lives, from fae who had volunteered. Making a whole new race of people wasn’t normal circumstances, because the new Queen was family and wanted to experiment with her abilities, so they’d created new souls too, which was… he shook his head. It shouldn’t have been done, and he no longer wanted to be part of the experiment, but he had no choice. His Queen had given the command that it was time to try to place a soul within one of the newly created dragon bodies.

When Nate walked in with Adrianna on his arm I knew exactly what he, and his brother, were doing. Had it not been for Richard Nate would never have known who she was. That would have been better for everyone involved. Seeing the pain in her eyes when she realised the man she loved was betraying her… had I been anyone else I would have been able to comfort her, but I wasn’t. She didn’t trust me, and that I understood. I was the Duke of West, a title that came with certain connotations that I’d done nothing to dispel when I inherited it, knowing that they would help me in the future. People who looked at me saw my father’s son. People who got to know me quickly realised I was nothing like my father. Adrianna didn’t know me. There was a chance she would never see past the person I pretended to be.

No matter how strong you were dealing with the walking dead was never a simple proposition. I fought, the way I always had, but I was tired. Being tired was what had killed my companions, and I wasn’t going to join them. Killing all of them, which might not even be possible, wasn’t something I needed to do, but creating myself a path was. With every kill I took another step forward, another step out of the pack I’d found myself trapped in the middle of. I felt like I was going to get out, at least until some of the fallen stood again. Of course they did. Right when I was close to freedom. For a moment, I’ll admit, I thought about giving up, but I couldn’t. I had to keep going.

The bathroom seemed the best place to go. I could feel the spell wrapping around me, and I tried to breathe as it tightened around my rib cage. It wasn’t the easy thing I’d ever had to do. Whatever had been used made me want to curl up on the floor and sleep, but I knew that letting the spell get the better of me was going to be a mistake. Then my cousin would grab me the way he’d been threatening to since he realised what I could do, because he needed me for the next step in his plan to take over the world. Laughing at him when he asked me for help probably hadn’t helped things.

There was a light. I remember that better than anything else. I felt it drawing me towards it, in such a way I knew I wouldn’t have been able to stop what was coming from happening, and then I stepped into it. I glanced over my shoulder, at the car in the ditch and my body. I was dead, so, logically, wherever I found myself must have been the afterlife. Yet, when I looked around, I found I was surrounded by tall trees, which made me think I was in a forest… and I definitely wasn’t expecting there to be a forest in the afterlife. Slowly I looked around, trying to work out where I was. At the same time I wasn’t entirely certain I wanted to know. I was definitely dead. I couldn’t have survived the crash.

Without opening my eyes I rolled to turn my phone alarm off. Instead of finding my phone, in the place where it should have been, my fingers hit a lamp. I lay still for a few seconds, my fingers on that lamp. It was real. I could feel it, even though I wished I couldn’t. The familiar sound of my alarm continued, as I accepted the fact it had happened to me, because I didn’t have any other option. Everyone had heard stories about people who’d found themselves living out the storyline from one of their favourite books, becoming a part of one of the T.V. series they watched, or learning the truth about a game they’d played. No one ever really thought it would happen to them until it did. I’d never once thought I would be one of those people, only I was, so I needed to work out where I was… and who I’d become.

Another missing person. Sighing, I looked down at the picture I’d been given. Like the others she was a teenage girl, who’d become more secretive recently, and that told me exactly what I was dealing with. Even though Willow had made it obvious anyone using the humans around them would be punished harshly that didn’t stop it. Far too many of them didn’t give a damn what she said, because, to them, she wasn’t the true Queen. Instead she was someone standing in the way of a true monarch, one who would make the right choices. If they found out she’d come to me, to ask for my help, they would have been even more determined to take her throne from her. Unlike them she understood. Being human meant my people trusted me, and, slowly, word had passed from one parent to the next. I was the person to come to if they needed help to find a lost child.

Like everyone else they’d both heard the rumours. The Dragons were back. Although that did mean admitting that the Dragons had existed in the first place, which was something no one had done for centuries. When they disappeared they left no trace of themselves behind, no history, no bones, nothing whatsoever, and that meant that there had been no proof that the stories everyone had read since the rumours started were more than that. Yet that was all beginning to make sense, as much as everyone hated to admit it, if the Dragons had been kept as slaves since the end of the war and those who were close to death chose to use the last of their life energy in order to hide their city.

For a long time all Lottie could do was stare at the options in front of her. It definitely wasn’t what she’d been expecting. She’d read about the light, and the door, and all sorts of other things, but she’d never once heard about someone who’d died being faced with the choice of pressing one of three buttons. Heaven sounded boring, to be honest. The last thing she wanted was to end up somewhere that was meant to be perfect. Hell… well, she’d heard a lot about hell, and she couldn’t be certain that any of it was true, but that didn’t meant she wanted to put herself in danger of being tortured for the rest of time. After thinking it through it seemed like the only thing she could do was press ‘New Game’ and hope for the best.

Ava never would have known she had magic if it hadn’t been for the jack o’ lantern. At first it had seemed totally normal. She, along with her sisters, had made a jack o’ lantern every year since their mum had disappeared, almost hoping that one of them would guide her back to them. Unfortunately it hadn’t happened yet, and she’d been gone for seven years, so it seemed unlikely she would ever return, but that never stopped them. The year the fae arrived they did the same thing they always did. It had taken them some time to find the perfect pumpkins, because that was one of the most important parts. Each of them had a different idea of what made the perfect pumpkin: Ava’s always had to be the right shade of orange; Fallon’s had to be the right size; and Mabyn’s had to feel just right. She dreaded to think what other people thought of them when they watched them paying so much attention to picking out the right pumpkin.

A list of some of the story lines I'm working on for this huge collection. For the moment I'm mostly focusing on the fae story lines, rather than anything else, and I'm including some I know I want to work on but don't yet have any stories. Some might be missing, if I've forgotten them. I will be going back to this.

The Creation of the Fae
The fae's beginning, before they travel to their first world, set on Kalinia long before the apocalypse.

Waking Up Fae
Set on Valatar, the world on which the fae were placed.

Stepping Onto Kalinia
The fae find another new home, and this time they find themselves on Kalinia, the world they were created on.

The War with the Little People
Set on Kalinia, about a hundred or so years after the fae set foot on this world.

The Creation of the Dragons
What happens when the Dragons are created by the Thirteen families.

The Curse
Mirai and Leif's story. Set on Kalinia, this is about what happens if fae Royalty is forced into doing something they normal wouldn't do.

The Duke of West
He's a character who seems to be involved in a lot of different things. I don't know if his story line, featuring Adrianna, comes before or after the Curse. It is connected.

Mab - Dealing with the End of the World
Definitely something important to write. Not yet started.

Sabia and Idwal - Saving the Fae
A collection of stories, that will include plenty of time travel, in the hope this work will create a safer world. (This is the point I feel could lead to several of the other collections.)

Willow - A Princess Who Didn't Wait to Be Rescued
How Willow, and the fae who followed her, dealt with the end of the world. This includes some stories from the point of view of the shifters, the mer, the humans already on Earth, and the fae.

The Fae School
Stories about the creation of the fae school, which happened not long after the fae arrived on Earth, and the students there.

The Fae Hotel
Claire inherits a hotel from her 'uncle' and learns a lot about her family, as well as the fae.

The Fae Lab
Stories set in a lab Willow permitted to be set up, to learn more about fae magic, only things ended up going very badly - and time travel is involved.

The Fight for Control
Stories from a number of characters about how Willow keeps control over the fae, when several of the other families want to take over. It includes people who are fighting on Willow's behalf, who are fighting against Willow, and who are doing their best to keep out of it.

Shapeshifter Daycare
Stories about the shapeshifters on Earth, who have ended up in daycare for multiple reasons.

The Coffee Shop
The place those who are seen as outsiders gather.

The Mountain
A collection of stories about people who are affected by a specific type of magic when they climb a mountain.

The Money Tree
An alternate universe where money grows on trees, and how this affects everyone.

There was something about how real the village felt that made it hard for Layla to believe she was dreaming, but that was the logical explanation. Yet, as she walked down the main street, the smells, the noises, the sensation of people brushing past her, made it feel as though she was actually there. None of her dreams before had been so full of sensation. The skirt she was wearing rubbed against her legs. The breeze that blew past her was full of scents she didn’t recognise. One of the woman who brushed past her had strands of hair that stroked over Layla’s shoulder. It was all too much for her to accept it was a dream, but there was no reason for it to be anything other than a dream. She remembered going to bed, and the sensation of slowly dozing off, before the found herself standing in the middle of what could only be a medieval village. Obviously she’d been watching too much of something.
