Warning: there will be spoilers in this post
As I spotlighted the Fae World last week I thought the best thing I could do next was spotlight the World Walkers this week. The two collections are very closely connected, and you will find stories for certain characters in both collections. However, due to the sheer size of the World Walkers collection, I made the decision to split them, and I think it was the best choice I could have made.
When I started writing for the World Walkers it never once crossed my mind it could become as big a collection as it is. Now, however, there are 28 worlds I’m actively writing for, and more that could be created in the future. The first of these worlds is Athare. It’s the only world that wasn’t created by the fae, and actually helped in the creation of the Web because she’s also sentient. This means that all the other worlds of the Web are also sentient, and they are characters as well as settings, so I’ll be going into more detail about them all in later spotlights. For now I’m just writing a basic overview of the entire collection as it is.
The fae who travelled here (the Thirteen Families) had to accept the fact they destroyed Kalinia, because by the time they left only the fae were there. At points the magic bounced back, only to be depleted again, and that’s why they made the decision to create the Web. Well, actually, they made the decision to create some worlds, without understanding what it was they would actually need to due. I believe I said in the Fae World spotlight that the fae had no idea how their magic actually worked. This is another point at which they show their lack of understanding, and had it not been for Athare they wouldn’t have known of previous failures. It’s entirely thanks to her that the Web is created, because she does understand, although that understanding came from a lot of pain being caused by the fae.
It’s important to note here that there are multiple Webs. Each one has been created slightly differently, as Athare is working to create the perfect Web. Again this is something I’ll go into in more detail in future spotlights. The Web I write for is currently home to 12 main worlds, 5 sibling worlds, and the eleven Gaelom clones, but this will increase as time passes, because there are a number of worlds still to work on. In the entire Web there are 37 worlds, not including sibling worlds, clones, and anything else that might pop up. For those of you who are writers and would like to write for an established universe the other worlds are available to be claimed. Just send me an email and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
Okay, so the 12 main worlds are Athare, Kankirin, Janoch, Gaelom, Kniroch, Siaral, Aerith, Raenarin, Saethera, Taithmarin, Beshaki, and Quiar. Every world is home to a number of created races, who were created in the hope it would protect the fae from their own destruction, because they’re an incredibly selfish race. Technically there was more to it than that later on, but with the first Webs it was pure selfishness. Had it not been for Athare’s involvement the same thing would have happened more times than it did.
When it comes to the worlds they are all different. What they’re like depends on who created them. Kankirin, Aerith, and Taithmarin, are a part of the Web, but they’re not connected to it in the same way as the others. All of the other worlds have doors that permit the Walkers to travel around them. Due to the fae, and their discomfort with what was done, the Walkers are constrained by certain rules if they work for the Council. If they don’t then they have to do their best to avoid the Council, so they can do what needs to be done. As with everything related to this collection there’s a lot more to it, and I’ll go into more detail in later spotlights. Occasionally people from the rest of the Web do end up on one of these three worlds, known as the lost worlds, but it doesn’t happen often, so they are very different to the others.
The sibling worlds, Pendragon, Sterling, Labyrinth, Oracle, and Edge, are connected to Kniroch. Walkers can’t often travel to these worlds either, although they are slightly more open to the naturals. Some of the races of Kniroch can travel to the sibling wolds, however, and they often do for things that can only be found on them. Again these worlds all have their own races, they’re all very different, and I’ll be spotlighting them on another day.
Following the sibling worlds are the Gaelom clones. These are within Gaelom, created in the hope that one of them would be able to take the place of a destroyed world within the Web. Other Webs have found themselves dealing with that situation in the past, so it was a way of trying to stop it from happening to this Web. Being clones of Gaelom only means that they have the same geography. Everything else is different. They have their own races, their own magics, and their own problems to deal with. These worlds are: Ilirin, Avaera, Konoran, Jadir, Eulae, Shael, Valira, Neothe, Krolar, Aena, and Iliria.
I think that’s the basics down. As I’ve said multiple times in this spotlight I will be coming back to the worlds, to talk about them in more detail. For now, though, that’s the Web, and if you want to learn a little more before that you can read some of the World Walkers stories.
