Warning: there will be spoilers in this post.

Aurora was the first character I wrote about in this collection, and she was, originally, going to be in Heliopath’s World. Then she found a place in another world altogether, because I was interested in having a world where all magic had been made illegal. It’s made much more difficult by the fact no one chooses to have magic. Either they bloom or they don’t. She was one who bloomed, but even before that she was helping magic users.

Both Aurora’s parents had magic. This wasn’t something anyone could prove, although people believed it was the case, and until her uncle told the world about his brother’s magic things were good. They helped magic users who had been found out reach the mountains, because they lived near them. They helped magic users in the town, and surrounding areas, to bloom. Then it all fell apart. Aurora’s father ended up in the mountains. Her mother struggled to look after both her children. Like she always had done Aurora did her best to help, but that help wasn’t enough. In the end it didn’t matter. Her mother died when her brother’s blooming went bad, leaving her alone and without a place to live.

The one bright spot in Aurora’ life was her best friend Harrison, who just happened to be the Crown Prince. Ever since the two of them met at school they’ve been inseparable, and I don’t see that changing, no matter what happens in their lives. He’s there for her through the very best parts and the very worst parts of her life. Some people think the two of them might marry, but that’s unlikely, for may different reasons. The main one is that Harrison isn’t actually interested in women, and the only reason he’s thinking about maybe marrying Aurora, which is something she knows about, is so he can have children without needing to do anything he’s not comfortable with.

When Aurora finds a safe way to leave the town behind she does, travelling to the mountains to reunite with her father. This happens, and at the same time she meets Griffin, Harrison’s younger brother, who was dumped out in the mountains as a baby because he was the second son. She becomes close to Griffin, the two of them spending a lot of time together when she has a chance. In the end he makes the decision to go to town in order to help Harrison look out for her, because the one things Aurora has always done is put other people ahead of her. They want to make sure she has someone there at all times. Due to what happened to her parents she hasn’t had that since she was 11. She’s looked out for herself, had a job, and done her best to be there for any magic users that need her.

Aurora is another of my favourite characters to write. I love her for her strength, for her determination to keep going even when things are bad, and her belief that things can get better. Of course if helps that her best friend in, in the end, going to be on the throne, and she can help to fix things. I don’t think it’s going to be anywhere near as easy as they want it to be, so I’m really looking forward to writing the next parts of her story. I’m also looking forward to exploring some more of her past.
